What Call Me Maybe teaches about marketing
So let’s have a little fun with this message. Summer always gets us nostalgic – especially when it comes to iconic jams – and we were recently reminded it has been 10 years since Carly Rae Jepsen’s catchy Call Me Maybe was the hit of the season. (Where did the time go?) Whether you loved or hated the tune, you certainly remember how it went.
But did you know it has some wonderful social media marketing tips in it? We’re serious. People use phones for everything but calling these days, but the message still resonates: You want clients to see your messages and reach out to you.
So, let’s take a look at just some of the lyrics.
- “I wasn’t looking for this.” First off, if you aren’t using social media, it’s important for you to know that your competitors are. Choose a platform, and get started today. Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn…pick one, and go, go, go.
- “Where you think you’re going, baby?” Keep customers coming back by posting interesting pictures and videos. Post local content, including events that are happening in your area. If someone comments, comment back! More ‘likes’ and ‘shares’ are just around the corner.
- “It’s hard to look right at you!” Above all, make sure you are posting for a reason. Posts need to be clear, concise and entertaining. Think interactive and engaging. Post your pet (with his shades and snappy cap), and encourage others to post theirs, as well. Thoughtful, silly and interesting keeps people coming back.
At this point, you may be wondering, “I’m in real estate. What does this have to do with me?” Well, “it’s at first sight, and it’s real!” People – especially potential millennial and Gen-Z clients – want to see that you’re authentic and fun. That old saying…you never get a second chance to make a first impression…there’s something to that.
What hidden marketing or real estate messages are in your favorite songs? We want to know the next time we’re around the closing table with you.
